About this Sacred Grove

Mudhanai is a small village situated North West of Neyveli town. There is a grove here dedicated to Sri Sembiyanar. Illuppa, the Indian butter tree is the predominant tree of the sacred grove. It is believed that every year the first dose of ghee supplied to light the Karthigai deepam at Tiruvannamalai is supplied by this village and hence the place got the name Mudhal + Nei = Mudhanai. In this sacred grove a special appeal is made by unmarried girls by offering “Maavilakku pooja that is a lamp made of rice flour” for a prosperous married life.
