About this Sacred Grove

Vadakku Soorakudi Aiyanar is a revered deity in the Sivagangai district of Tamil Nadu, India, known for his protective and benevolent nature. His mythology and local stories weave together a rich tapestry of divine intervention and cultural tradition. According to the myth, Kalanemi was a powerful demon who terrorized the region, disrupting the peace and harmony of the land. Vadakku Soorakudi Aiyanar fought a fierce battle with a demon Kalanemi and saved the villagers. When a severe plague struck the village, the villagers, helpless and desperate, prayed to Aiyanar for relief. One night, in a vision, Ayanar appeared to the village healer and instructed her to prepare a special herbal remedy using sacred herbs found in the nearby forest and protected the villagers.
