About this Sacred Grove

Chama Kavu covers approximately 3.64 hectares and represents an evergreen sacred-grove ecosystem. The grove is associated with the local worship of Thayyi Paradevatha and forms a small but important refuge for native vegetation within the surrounding human landscape. Sacred groves in northern Kerala typically contain multilayered vegetation including trees, shrubs, herbs and climbers.

Sacred grove - Spanning a significant acreage of thick natural canopy, it is a protected biodiversity hotspot. It preserves rare floristic diversity, distinct plant species, and acts as a natural water conservation site with its own perennial ponds.

This temple is highly famous for its annual Theyyam festival, which takes place in the Malayalam month of Makaram (typically mid-to-late January). Major Theyyams performed here include Thiruvarkkat Bhagavathy, Vettaikkorumakan, Kelamkulangara Bhagavathy, and Panjuruli.
