About this Sacred Grove

The grove is traditionally associated with and protected in the name of the local deity Cho Chuba. Local communities, particularly through institutions like Gumpas (Buddhist monasteries), enforce traditional taboos against exploiting the resources within these boundaries.

Positioned within the Eastern Himalaya biodiversity hotspot, the strict cultural prohibitions against hunting, logging, and biomass extraction help the Chuba grove act as an in-situ gene bank, protecting rare Himalayan wet temperate flora and fauna.
